Deep Thoughts by Sparky Polastri

Tales of a crazed dance, musical theatre and cheerleading coach. I've got the blonde, I've got the big smile, I've got the loud voice. I'm missing the boobs.

I think it's only working at a school that you come across conversations like this...

The other day, I was downstairs talking to the woman who runs the shack (a mini cafeteria).

A boy comes up and says "do you have any red food colouring I can have?"

Obviously, the answer is "no", but we'll go with "uh...what for?"

"Oh, I'm going to make some fake blood."

"Do you need this for class?"

"No, no, just for my own use."

Yikes.

On Friday, we also had the school "talent" show. We'll use that term loosely. Unless of course you consider putting on a duck mask and headbanging for three minutes a talent? Or standing in front of a mic and lip-synching to a song while not moving anything else but your mouth?

Sure, lots of people say that the kids should be congratulated just for getting up there in front of everyone. I'm not big on encouraging mediocrity though. To me, the poor MC's of the talent show who had to come on afterwards and say stuff like "wow, wasn't that great?" with a straight face were the most talented performers of the afternoon.
