Here goes Nothing...
I'm literally minutes away from heading to the theatre for opening night.
So many things going through my mind right now.
Last night, one girl was heading out the door with her costume (a no no). We asked her where she was taking it. She said that her mom wanted to iron the costume, because she has people coming for opening night.
Uh, yes, THAT'S the small detail we need to iron out.
Perhaps our attentions would be better focussed on:
The shy awkward kid who now CONTINUES to add in awkard, inappropriate arm movements whenever he's on stage. He's been asked to not put in the fake fall, yet continues to do it.
The kids who are bored so want to "help" with set changes. Ok, stage crew wears black for a reason. If you're wearing a purple sequined jacket and lamé pants, I'm thinking we're going to notice that.
The fact that we're short a follow spot operator for tonight. Though, that may be an improvement, since the follow spot operator seemed to have a bad case of Parkinson's or something last night.
The kid who came into my office today insisting that he should have a fake moustache for his part. This is the kid who has a variation of one line throughout the show, and can't really handle that, and he wants to throw facial hair into the mix? Besides, if you're literally 65lbs soaking wet, and 4'7, a fake moustache has a tall order in making you look more manly.
Much of the choreo for "Luck be a Lady" is based on the lead's singing. When the lead races ahead of the music while singing, it's hard to know whether to follow him and the cue words, or follow the music. Thankfully, we have about half and half, so the number looks like complete crap.
Oh, and, I dunno, the fact that because the theatre screwed us over tech wise, we haven't done a full run of the show yet, and we're basically going to be winging it tonight?
Yeah, we're going to need a LARGE iron.
Wish us luck.

Dearest Daisie... reading your blog is the highlight of my day! After being part of a production team for "Footloose: the Musical" last year, I get such a case of the giggles every time I read your stories, because the theatre experience seems to be the same everywhere, whether it's with kids or community theatre. I really wish I was living close enough to see the show - all the best to you!
